A guideline, not a rule: pixels = size in cm ÷ 2.54 × dpi. Below 150 dpi fine detail starts to get lost, especially on a print you look at up close.
Print sizes are written short side first: 10 × 15 means 10 cm wide and 15 cm tall for a portrait print, or the other way round for a landscape one. Print formats are grouped by aspect ratio, and that matters more than the centimetres: it decides whether your photo gets cropped.
Photo print sizes we make (cm, to scale)
2:3 and 3:4 print sizes: why a photo gets cropped
Film and better cameras shoot in a 2:3 ratio, which fits 10 × 15, 25 × 38 and 30 × 45. Most phones and compact cameras shoot in 3:4: for that shot a 10 × 15 print is too long, so part of the picture at the top and bottom is lost.
If you want the whole shot, choose a 3:4 size: 10 × 14, 13 × 17, 23 × 30 or 30 × 40 cm. Most photo shops don't offer them. The other option is 10 × 15 with white borders, which shows the whole picture. There is an illustrated explanation in our photo tips.
How many pixels a good print needs
What matters for printing is the number of pixels, not megabytes. The guideline for a sharp print you look at up close is 300 dpi (dots per inch), and about 150 dpi is still acceptable, especially for larger prints seen from a distance. The table above shows how many pixels that is for the common sizes.
- A 12 MP shot (4000 × 3000 pixels) gives a 30 × 40 cm print at about 250 dpi, more than enough for a wall.
- Photos sent over Viber, WhatsApp or social media are usually downsized. For a large print, bring the original from your phone or camera.
- Before printing we look at every photo and tell you honestly up to which size it looks good.
Ready-made frames in the shop (cm, to scale)
We print your photo in the same size, so the framed picture is ready while you wait. Frames in other sizes are made to measure in a day or two.
Frame sizes and larger formats
We print your photo to the exact size of the frame, so picture framing is done while you wait. For anything larger than 30 × 60 cm choose a canvas print: any size up to 140 × 250 cm. Which size suits the wall above a sofa or bed is explained in living room wall art.

Frequently asked questions
What are the standard photo print sizes?
The most common are 10 × 15, 13 × 18, 15 × 21 and A4 (21 × 30 cm). We print 28 sizes, from 9 × 13 to 30 × 60 cm, including 3:4 sizes that most shops don't have.
How many pixels do I need for a 10 × 15 print?
For a sharp 10 × 15 cm print, 1181 × 1772 pixels (300 dpi) is ideal and about 591 × 886 (150 dpi) is acceptable. Any modern phone has more than enough.
Why does a 10 × 15 print cut off part of my photo?
Because 10 × 15 has a 2:3 ratio, while most phones and cameras shoot in 3:4, so part of the picture at the top and bottom is lost. For the whole shot choose 10 × 14 or 13 × 17, or 10 × 15 with white borders.
What is the largest photo print you make?
On photo paper, 30 × 60 cm. Larger pictures are printed on canvas, in any size up to 140 × 250 cm.
Which frame sizes do you have?
Ready-made frames in 10 × 15, 13 × 18, 15 × 21, 20 × 25, 20 × 30, 25 × 35 and 30 × 40 cm. We print your photo to the frame size and frame it while you wait.
