We print your photo in the same size, so the framed picture is ready while you wait. Frames in other sizes are made to measure in a day or two.

Which size for which wall

A picture or a group of pictures above a sofa looks best when it covers about two thirds of the sofa's width. The centre of the picture sits comfortably at about 150 cm from the floor, with the bottom edge 20–25 cm above the backrest.

  • Sofa up to 200 cm: one canvas 120–140 cm wide, or three framed 30 × 40 photos in a row.
  • Narrow wall or hallway: a portrait-format canvas, or two 30 × 40 photos one above the other.
  • Shelf and sideboard: 13 × 18, 15 × 21 and 20 × 25 frames, arranged by height.

A gallery wall of several photos

For a wall of framed photos, start with the largest one in the middle (30 × 40 or 25 × 35), then arrange smaller sizes around it, 20 × 25 and 15 × 21. A gap of 5–8 cm between frames holds the arrangement together. Before drilling, cut paper to the size of each frame and tape it to the wall.

Modern wall art from your own photos

A black-and-white version, a tighter crop or a single detail often looks more modern than the whole photo. We correct every picture by hand before printing and choose the crop together with you in the shop. Old and damaged photos can be restored before framing.

Pictures for the bedroom

Above a bed the same rule applies as above a sofa: the picture or group covers about two thirds of the bed's width. For a 160 cm double bed that is a canvas about 100–110 cm wide, or two to three framed photos in a row. Leave the bottom edge 20–30 cm above the headboard so you don't touch it with your head.

  • Above the bed: one landscape-format canvas, or a pair of portrait-format pictures above the bedside tables.
  • Calmer subjects: landscapes, the sea, the sky or a family photo in soft tones. A black-and-white photo goes with any bedding.
  • No glass above your head: canvas is lighter than a glazed frame and doesn't reflect the bedside lamp.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a framed photo take?

For standard frame sizes, from 10 × 15 to 30 × 40 cm, printing and framing are done while you wait. A custom-size frame takes a day or two, a canvas print 6–48 hours.

Can I bring photos from my phone?

Yes. We transfer pictures from your phone, memory card or USB stick, and we can also scan an old paper photo.

What if my photo is not good enough for a large print?

Before printing we check the resolution and tell you honestly up to which size the picture looks good. For canvas we can upscale the resolution up to 10 times, with sharpening and colour correction.

Do you have ready-made wall art?

Our studio has a small gallery of canvas prints that you can buy on the spot.

Frame or canvas: which is better for a living room?

A frame is better for smaller sizes, shelves, sideboards and gallery walls of several photos. Canvas is better for one large picture above the sofa or on an empty wall: it has no glass, so there is no glare.
