A free cross stitch pattern maker: turn any photo into a counted cross-stitch chart with DMC thread numbers, a perler bead pattern for 29 × 29 pegboards or a custom diamond painting with square or round drills. Choose the size in stitches and the number of colours, see the finished size in cm and inches, and save a printable PDF with a symbol chart and a colour list.

How to make a cross stitch pattern from a photo

  1. Choose a photo and what you are making: cross-stitch on Aida (11, 14, 16 or 18 count), fuse beads (Hama, Perler, Artkal) or diamond painting.
  2. Set the stitches across and the most colours you want; the best thread or bead colours are picked automatically. Dithering and brightness, contrast and saturation are optional.
  3. Drag and zoom the photo to choose the crop, then check the preview as real stitches, beads or drills, or as the symbol chart.
  4. Save the PDF: a cover with the preview and the colour list (number, name, count, skeins), then the chart in pages with row and column numbers. Print at 100 %.

Frequently asked questions

Is this also a perler bead pattern maker?

Yes. Choose fuse beads and the Hama, Perler or Artkal colour chart; the pattern shows round beads with the pegboard edges every 29 beads, and the colour list counts the beads you need.

Can I make a custom diamond painting from my photo?

Yes. Choose diamond painting, square (2.5 mm) or round (2.8 mm) drills; the colours use DMC numbers, as most diamond painting kits do, and the list counts the drills with 10 % spare.

How do I convert a photo to a cross stitch pattern with DMC colours?

Pick the photo and the number of colours: every stitch gets the nearest of about 450 DMC floss colours, and the PDF lists each number with its symbol, stitch count and an estimate of skeins.

How big will my cross stitch be?

The size is the number of stitches divided by the fabric count: 100 stitches on 14-count Aida are about 18 cm (7.1 in). The tool shows it for 11, 14, 16 and 18 count.

Is it free?
