Questions
How do I convert HEIC to JPG?
Choose or drop your HEIC files, check the JPG settings, and each file is converted on your device in a second or two. Then save them one by one, as a ZIP, or into a folder.
Why do iPhone photos come as HEIC?
iPhones save photos as HEIC because it needs about half the space of JPG. Many websites, Windows programs and printers still cannot open HEIC, so a JPG copy is the safe choice for sharing and printing.
How is HEIC opened without an app?
Safari and browsers with hardware HEVC support decode the photo themselves; FotoJock reads the HEIC container and feeds the picture tiles to that decoder. Elsewhere a separate decoder (libheif) is loaded on demand. Either way the photo never leaves your device.
Will the picture lose quality?
JPG is a compressed format. At the default quality the difference cannot be seen, and you can compare before and after with the slider. Raise the quality for prints, lower it for smaller files.
Are the date, camera and location kept?
By default the EXIF data (date, camera, settings) is kept and the picture is turned the right way up. You can remove just the location, or all metadata, in the settings.
What about Live Photos and bursts?
A HEIC file can hold several pictures. Turn on “All pictures inside a HEIC” and each one is saved as its own file. The video part of a Live Photo is a separate .MOV file and is not changed.
Can I do hundreds of files at once?
Yes. Drop a whole folder or select as many files as you like. They are processed a few at a time on all your processor cores, with progress for every file. You can pause, stop, retry, and save as a ZIP or straight into a folder.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. FotoJock runs entirely in your browser: the files are read, converted and saved on your own phone or computer. Nothing is sent to a server, and it keeps working offline once the page is open.
Is it really free?
Yes, with no account, no watermark and no limit on the number of files. FotoJock is made by Foto Jocković, a photo shop in Belgrade.
HEIC (HEIF with HEVC) is the format iPhones use for photos: small files, but not every program can open it.
JPG (JPEG) is the most widely supported photo format: every phone, computer, website and printer opens it.
