Discord video compressor – Compress clips for Discord

Discord plays H.264 MP4 right in the chat. This preset makes 720p, 30 fps H.264 with AAC sound at the smallest size that still looks clean, and warns you when a file is over the 10 MB free upload limit.

How it works

How to use it

  1. Choose your videos, a whole folder, or drop them on the page.
  2. Pick the settings (the defaults suit most phone videos) and watch the progress, file by file.
  3. Compare before and after in the player, then save each file, a ZIP, or straight into a folder.

Questions

How much smaller will my videos get?

Phone videos usually shrink by 50 to 90% at the High level, because phones record at a very high bitrate. Screen recordings often shrink even more. A video that is already as lean as the level needs is copied without re-encoding, and a result is never bigger than the original.

How does FotoJock choose the bitrate?

It encodes a few short moments from across the video at two bitrates, decodes them again and measures how close they are to the original (SSIM). From that it works out the lowest bitrate that keeps your level: Visually lossless, High or Small. Then the video is encoded once. Calm scenes get fewer bits and busy ones more, the way the big video platforms do it.

Why is there no “exact size in MB” option?

Because a size says nothing about how the video will look: a short clip looks great at 3 MB, while a long one squeezed into 10 MB turns to mush. FotoJock makes the smallest file at the quality you choose and shows its size. If it is over a limit, choose Small or 480p, or trim the video.

H.264, H.265, VP9 or AV1?

FotoJock uses H.265 (HEVC) when your device has a hardware HEVC encoder, as iPhones, Macs and many Android phones and Windows PCs do: the same quality in about a third less space. Elsewhere it uses H.264, which plays everywhere. AV1 is offered only where it is hardware accelerated. The settings show which encoder your device uses.

Does it work with iPhone and Android videos?

Yes: MOV and MP4 in H.264 or HEVC, portrait or landscape, with variable frame rate. Rotation is kept, sound stays in sync, and HDR videos are converted to normal colours when the output cannot hold HDR.

How big can the videos be?

Several gigabytes. The video is read in pieces and big results are written to your browser’s private storage on disk instead of memory, so long recordings work on computers and, more slowly, on phones.

Can I convert many videos at once?

Yes. Drop a whole folder or choose as many files as you like. They are converted one or two at a time, with a progress bar and time left for each, and you can pause, stop, retry, and save everything as a ZIP or straight into a folder.

Are my videos uploaded anywhere?

No. Your videos are read, converted and saved by your own browser, using your device’s video hardware where it has it. Nothing is sent to a server, so even private or very large videos stay on your phone or computer.

Which browsers work?

Recent Chrome, Edge, Safari (16.4 or newer, also on iPhone and iPad), Firefox (130 or newer) and Android browsers, all of which encode video with WebCodecs, usually in hardware. Which codecs are available depends on the browser and the device.

Is it really free?

Yes, with no account, no watermark and no limit on the number of files. FotoJock is made by Foto Jocković, a photo shop in Belgrade.
